Description
A gold-rimmed white plate is the simplest way to make a Tuesday dinner look considered. The rim here is hand-applied and slightly irregular, which is exactly what separates a real lustre finish from a printed gold line – it catches the light at different angles around the plate.
At 26 cm it is a proper dinner plate, with a shallow well that keeps a sauce and a side in their places. Material & finish
The body is fine porcelain – fired thin and dense, which is why a 26 cm plate weighs only 0.7 kg and still feels solid. The rim is scalloped and then hand-finished with gold lustre, a metallic glaze that is applied after the main firing and fired again at a lower temperature. That second firing is what gives the gold its depth, and also why the plate should not go in a microwave or a dishwasher.
